Love Your Body Naked

Julie Merriman Wray has owned and operated seven different businesses (!), married the man of her dreams, raised the cutest toddler ever.  These days she blogs at Olivine’s Charm School about life, self-love and sparkles.  Stop over and have a look!

Yes, you may have heard of doing mirror work, and frankly, you would probably rather undergo minor surgery. But what I am going to share with you today is not quite as painful.

You have probably heard the concept before that what we think about is what becomes our reality. And you know what, it’s true. Go ahead, try and challenge me on that! What I don’t believe though, is that in a The Secret kind of way we can just think positive thoughts and turn it all around.

I have a technique that I believe is so much more powerful and I think you should try it out. For me. Please? It takes some practice and it takes a lot of consistency, but it will pay off. I Promise. Here’s what you are going to do: Every time you have a negative thought I want you to counter it with a positive and true story that involves whatever you are angry at. It’s just a story, you can’t argue with it. Check out these little scenarios…

Here’s a little something out of my own personal arsenal (done the right way):
NEGATIVE ME: Man your belly could use some work. Having a baby ruins your body for life. You will never be able to wear a bathing suit again. Can you see how big it is?
POSITIVE ME: I can’t even believe that I made a baby inside of me. It is truly a miracle. I love being a mother, it is the best thing I have ever done. I can’t really argue with that.
Situation = Over

Now here is the same story done the wrong way (affirmation method):
NEGATIVE ME: Man your belly could use some work. Having a baby ruins your body for life. You will never be able to wear a bathing suit again. Can you see how big it is?
POSITIVE ME: My belly is beautiful and I love it.
NEGATIVE ME: Bullshit, it is hideous.
POSITIVE ME: No, seriously, I have a beautiful belly.
NEGATIVE ME: Bullshit, go on a diet immediately.
Do you see how this conversation could go on forever and get absolutely nowhere?

Here is another example of my method done properly:
ME: My thighs are huge. Who could ever love me with these thighs?
ME: I went for the longest walk yesterday with my dog and it felt so good to be outside.
Situation=Over

You have to be consistent with this, and over time the negative you will show up less and less. Practice this a few times and let me know what you think!
